Review Comment:
   ^^ also this above suggestion assumes the filtering iterator would be the 
first in the chain. I guess we could have two ctors: one that takes in a 
recorder and decides how best to do things (either pull an iterator from the 
recorder or leverage a contains method), and another that just takes an 
iterator. That creates a lot of flexibility for many situations. Thoughts?
