Thanks to all who helped, I got it running in the meantime. The problem 
was a simple typo. Invoking /usr/lib/cups/backends/hp reported the 
correct address of the printer, I´ve put the output 
in /etc/cups/printers.conf restarted Cups and the HP backend works now! 
Pretty cool to check the ink cartridges with Linux now ;-)
