Thanx. I know the version I use is ancient, but I´d first try to get it working with the versions provided with my distribution. I purchased an USB cable now and the situation improved a little bit ;-) /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp gives the following output: direct hp:/usb/DESKJET_920C?serial=IK16J7Z6ENQKW "HP DESKJET_920C" "hp:/usb/DESKJET_920C?serial=IK16J7Z6EQKW" but in /etc/cups/printers.conf the USB backend is used, when I change it from DeviceURI usb://HP/DeskJet%20920C?serial=IK16J7Z6EQKW to DeviceURI hp://HP/DeskJet%20920C?serial=IK16J7Z6EQKW and restart Cups, hp-toolbox still does not work... so the only remaining question to me is, how to tell Cups not to use the USB backend, but the HP backend... if this is done, I think hp-toolbox will run finally.
