Hi,
I have been glancing at a few bugs when this came up on yammer, and I'm
wondering if the lag is actually a symptom of "failed intent". I'm using
that name because that's what happens in the new localizations area
right now.
I can see that we're having two objectives here:
- have planet.m.o be digestible
- have planet.m.o be representative
Both serve the same purpose, that planet.m.o is meaningful.
We had a few changes to the planet policies, like the l10n team blog
can't be on planet, because it's a team blog. Thus it's on the projects
planet. In total, pmo lists 12 different planets.
That's obviously to make the planet page digestible.
OTH, of the few bugs I looked at, many started with "because of reps
SOP, I should be on planet". Obviously, this aims to make pmo
representative.
Just that it's hard to have both at the same time.
I wonder if we need to revisit what planet really should be.
TBH, I don't even know what planet is and how people use it. I for one
use the planet subscription feed to review additions to planet and if I
should take them into my own subscriptions.
Planet is confusing. That we have more planets than the solar system
isn't helping.
Are there alternatives to having a "planet"? Something beyond a single
stream of RSS?

Hi,
Can we agree to automate planet additions (and maybe removals,
updates?). https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=881367 has been
languishing for 3months. This is not my first experience like this. I
ask every one of my team members to sign up for a blog and syndicate it
to planet. Most of the planet additions take months :(
I value our community contributors, but I don't think it makes sense to
rely on availability of community members to do things that should be
automatic. Lets fix this by automating planet.
The planet is our main venue for discussing our work in the open, we
should treat it with more care. I think it's pretty clear that the slow
process of getting people on planet is causing more harm than good(how
many people DID NOT get approved in the last few years?).
I personally would prefer an easier way to get something off planet to
obstacles in getting content onto planet.

ps. I sent this to planet@mozilla, but only got a reply from preed
soliciting more feedback.
