I refuse to use Gmail but I have trusted FastMail for about 13 years, though I do pay them for the privilege. As they say, if you aren't paying for the product then you are the product. Despite my preference for FastMail, I don't forward my Gentoo mail and connect using IMAP directly. I am totally fine with that setup.
