I just did a quick search for DOS VBE and found these:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UniVBE
http://www.shawnhargreaves.com/freebe/index.html
https://dosdriver.de/graph.php
I haven't looked closely at any of them. They seem promising and I
intended to; particularly freebe.

I was thinking Allegro too at first. But no, the current version does
not work in DOS.

For libraries, my first thought would be Allegro. But that's a game
library (if that makes any difference) and I'm not sure if the
current version works with DOS or not.

It certainly could be done using VESA.
I believe the "official" VESA screen modes top out at 1280 x 1024,
but some VBE implementations go to 1600 x 1200 and beyond. Your game
should be coded to search the VESA modes list at startup to see what
resolutions are available on the system on which it's running.
Perhaps some others here can recommend a good graphics library to
help interface to the VESA code.

Hello everyone?
Is it possible to create a 2D game for FreeDOS using high
definition? Like 1920x1080?
If the answer is Yes, what is the best language to complete the task?
Thanks to all,
Roberto
