Okay. Frankly, XT support is already there (unsupported). The only
missing feature would be beeping, but I don't think it is important.
I'll even decide wether I'll release current one (with small patches)
as 2.0 final to be launched with FreeDOS 1.0.
I am a bit worried about DISPLAY, though.

I fully agree!

By the ammount of complains that occur when this very important piece
of code has any incidence (mostly misconfiguration, as we've seen that
it's working frankly well), I'd say it is sensible.

I'm willing to test! Under VMWARE I was always stuck with some problem
the few times I tried: I seem to remember that it was about the drive
signature or something like that. I'll let you know in case someone
can reproduce it too.

I am also willing to re-cycle the to-do and post pages. In fact, I
have already started. Wish there was an easy HTML->Wiki converter out
there :)

I would like to say a final words about this, also replying to Imre.
Imre, in no way I did mean to remove the fun of contributing for
FreeDOS with the TOD-DO list. I did it in a moment in which it gave me
the impression that the project was a collection of impaired MS-DOS
compatibility, and on the idea of seeing our distance to a MS-DOS
distribution (after all, many claims from users are of the like
"FreeDOS does not do this").

I've personally always been a bit conservative about the 1.0 idea,
true. Let's face it: whereas our FreeCOM has a lot of new capabilities
(specially after this new fresh air from Blair!) we do not have a
SCANDISK (yes, dosfsck etc, but they are completely different tools),
we still collect claims on the menus not being compatible to FreeDOS
1.0, we had a serious collection on bugs on some critical utilities,
such as FDISK. My fear was to prematurely release FreeDOS 1.0, so that
some users would get disappointed by some faults that we know to be
minor (but we don't).

Having said that, I am also greatly concerned about
(1) the constant leak of developers
(2) the fact that the project looked a bit stuck
(3) the negative consequences of the previous too (specially on the
words by Jim Hall, that I fully understand),
thus as simply one more of the participants on this forum I'd like to
gladly participate on the launch of FreeDOS 1.0. I'd say go for it!

As I mentioned, Blair please let me know where I could download the
test versions. And about re-cycling the to-do pages, I think I'm no
longer focusing into milestones. I'd rather turn those pages in a new
reference (I'd love to be a wiki, if I happen to find a good
HTML->wiki, as I know some HTML but not wiki language at all), with
three aims:
- A laboratory of ideas
- A dictionary of "how to MS-DOS=> FreeDOS"
- A measurement of the interest of FreeDOS users

I just finish with two questions:
(a) could someone clarify to me a bit which UDMA/CACHE like tools are
to be launched with FreeDOS 1.0? (opensourced, obviously)
(b) how's the release policy going to be? After the freeze by the end
of july there will be a release, then many testings, then bugfixes...
how many "pre"s before the final?

Aitor
