Then we have to convince him. :-) CD burning is currently a pain in DOS and relies on closed source or even copyrighted software (OAK ASPI, wnaspi32.dll, www.goldenhawk.com). AFAIR ATAPI drives were introduced in 486 times. Up to 386 most drives followed their own standards and were connected to a sound card or drive-specific controller card.
