Jack have quite a long discussion with some of the developers and me, about where's the "bottom-line" and the conclusion is start from 80386, because 80386 have protect mode, UMB ... etc. It's not practical to start from a 8088 or 286, another reason is it's very hard to find a 286 hardware, but we still can find 486 or Pentium everywhere. Though he don't have plan to make it work, but you can change the source code to compile for 8088, the source have detail comments.
