Hi,
just stumbled upon this topic, have been wondering why signal wasnt
updating.
so can i just build the newest version of signal myself from the ports
tree?
im not a fan of electron either and am not surprised that a version of
it is not supported but i have to agree with Miroslav that it makes it a
bit of a pain to use freebsd as a desktop
Yes, signal-desktop builds fine and the build of Signal itself is fast.
But the electron takes huge amount of time. If you heave a powerful
machine, you can just update ports tree and build signal-desktop.
It's sad that instead of building Electron once for thousands of users,
thousands of users have to build it themselves. It's a needless waste of
electricity.

It's almost impossible without a packages from own Poudriere build.
I've always source built ports for desktop, using -latest due to
the number of moving, dependent parts.
