Actually, depending on what format you request from the OAI-PMH interface, it's possible to grab a direct link to a bitstream hosted in DSpace so you wouldn't have to move it-it would still be hosted and served by your DSpace install. You just need to be able to reconcile the records retrieved from separate queries using DIM, DC & METS OAI-PMH metadata, since (frustratingly), no one format gives you all of the information.
You may need to enable them in your settings, though. To see what types of records you can retrieve via OAI: http://your.dspace.net/oai/request?verb=ListMetadataFormats And to see what you can retrieve in, e.g. METS: http://your.dspace.net/oai/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=mets DIM (DSpace Intermediate(?) Metadata): http://your.dspace.net/oai/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=dim QDC (Qualified Dublin Core): http://your.dspace.net/oai/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=qdc and the standard OAI_DC: http://your.dspace.net/oai/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=oai_dc This is on DSpace 1.6, but I've used it on 1.5 before as well. -Andrew On 2010-07-19, at 11:15 PM, wally grotophorst wrote: > Yes, you have to manually move any actual bitstreams...the OAI plugin for > Omeka just handles import of metadata (but it does that well). > > We've been thinking of using Omeka to provide a 'user-compelling' sort of > front-end for various "exhibitions" featuring DSpace-based content.
