Yes, you have to manually move any actual bitstreams...the OAI plugin
for Omeka just handles import of metadata (but it does that well).
We've been thinking of using Omeka to provide a 'user-compelling' sort
of front-end for various "exhibitions" featuring DSpace-based content.
I'd love to do a wholesale 'skin' of DSpace with Omeka but until
accessing the bitstreams works in a more automatic fashion, it's not
really feasible.
Perhaps that's something OAI-ORE might address or some sort of METS
implementation could fix but right now there's just the OAI support on
each end.

Wally,
Yeah, Omeka has the kind of functionality we're looking for, in terms
of presentation but does the OAI import function only import metadata?
Do you then have to manually add things like thumbnails, images
associated with a record, and links to master files like TIFFs or
media files?

I've done some work with Omeka (www.omeka.org

OAI import so you can spend all you time on fixing the
presentation (not worrying about doing the metadata import).

We're looking at using Drupal as a front-end to Dspace
repositories and I can't help but think we're not the only ones.
Anybody out there doing something like this? We're think of
Drupal as primarily a presentation layer to make some collections
prettier and interactive but wouldn't be opposed to Islandora
scale functionality.
