If Trak is customizable enough, it might be good to have the ticket template always have a link to the Google Group. Label it "Google Group/Mailing List", and then a comment that says "let's move this discussion over to the mailing list" can be a simple click on a link, and you're at the mailing list. Hopefully, that could help to eliminate the overhead associated with getting the discussion to the right place to make progress.
