I am all for "real choice" and keeping the user in control but offering these preferences does nothing but pretend to protect users and their privacy. If there is a chance the user might have turned it off without the site noticing then websites will just keep on doing what they do currently. Without any chance for the user to intervene or limit, and without a way to notice this is happening.
