The reason the fglrx driver can not be built is that either when built by dkms, the module install when loading the s/w or manually is that "/lib/modules/3.0.0-1-amd64/build" is empty with kernel 3.0.0.1 amd64. The headers etc for kernel 3.1.0.0amd64 were available for some reason before the image, and copying the contents of /lib/modules/3.1.0-0-amd64/build into the /lib/modules/3.0.0-1-amd64/build directory allows fglrx module to be built. However, kernel3.1.0.0amd64 is now available and the fglrx module builds without any problem and installs. So gnome-shell can run correctly. But driver is not good, when you float the mouse pointer over something that provides the box with more info in, or pulldown menus, the box is trapezoid with the contents diagonally separated and wrapped. Running any video causes the X to fallover and you get returned to the login screen :( I am curious how the same driver was used on Fedora FC15 running gnome 3 without the problems I see. I seem to remember the kernel used was 2.6.40, which was really the beta for the later kernels. I'll wait a couple of weeks and see if the problems go as more updates filter down, if not Its a new Nvidia graphics card. thanks for the help -- Best wishes / 73 Richard Bown e-mail: rich...@g8jvm.com or richard.b...@blueyonder.co.uk nil carborundum a illegitemis ################################################################################## Ham Call G8JVM .
