you're right the NFSROOT has 3.2.11 as the version. Now when fai-setup runs 
make-fau-nfsroot should it be getting the appropriate version?

Are you running a sid system, or where are you getting the packages from? You 
will most likely need to modify /etc/fai/apt/sources.list. Further, please run

chroot /srv/fai/nfsroot/live/filesystem.dir dpkg -l | grep fai

and send the results.
