Which Gutenprint driver are you using (the CUPS web page at http://localhost:631/printers will tell you)? It will be something like "HP LaserJet 4 series - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc2". You might also like to try both the cupsys-driver-gutenprint and libgutenprint2 packages from unstable; I think you already have these, however.
