This seems to be the culprit. If I choose "Unknown USB #1" and all the PPD's work fine. (I tried The foomatic "recommended", the one I downloaded with http://users.adelphia.net/~david.everly/ppd/hplj1320.sh, and the one at hplip PPD in /usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP-Laserjet_1320-hpijs.ppd. None of them worked with the HPLIP URI, all of them worked with the "Unkown USB #1" URI.) > When you install hplip-ppds, remove to "modify printer" and redo the entire > printer setup. Otherwise CUPS won't refresh the device PPD. I couldn't ever get CUPS to give me the list of "HP (HPLIP)". It just sat there and spun its wheels at 100% CPU utlization for 15 minutes. But I tried manually providing the PPD at /usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP-Laserjet_1320-hpijs.ppd and from hplip-ppd 0.9.7-4. If I use it with the "hp:" device URI, it breaks, just like the foomatic PPD, but if I use "Unkown USB #1" it works.
