I think it is best to add a line about not having a warranty. It seems like implied warranties exist in the U.S. and probably most other places. Best to add the disclaimer so it is clear anyone who downloads the software should not expect a warranty. >From UCC ยง 2-314 [1]: (1) Unless excluded or modified (Section 2-316), a warranty that the goods shall be merchantable is implied in a contract for their sale if the seller is a merchant with respect to goods of that kind... The referenced UCC Section 2-316 [2]: (2)Subject to subsection (3), to exclude or modify the implied warranty of merchantability or any part of it the language must mention merchantability and in case of a writing must be conspicuous, and to exclude or modify any implied warranty of fitness the exclusion must be by a writing and conspicuous. Language to exclude all implied warranties of fitness is sufficient if it states, for example, that "There are no warranties which extend beyond the description on the face hereof." A good lawyer could probably argue that free software develoeprs aren't "sellers" or something. But adding the disclaimer probably saves them from the arguement entirely. Not a lawyer, just the impression I get from what I've read of the topic. [1] https://www.law.cornell.edu/ucc/2/2-314 [2] https://www.law.cornell.edu/ucc/2/2-316 Collin
