Vikram, I have used DSO for archiving, way back before archiving was available....used it to keep a running 'x' month on prod, archiving everything else off to the same form on a reporting server. The only issue we had with it was that sometimes the pending queue would backup and I remember needing to bounce something...likely the dso daemon to get it processing again. I was never worried about losing data because it never deleted from source till it had confirmation that it was moved to destination.

Also this option will help us for future data deletes but what about say 4 years data that we would need to delete in bulk so that the production server will have current 13 months data only.
