I attempted the installation on a dev box and it took almost a full week. At the end, we discovered that the VM slice did not have enough resources in addition to that there was something between the database and the AR Server that made the process tries few times to write to the database. In each write call to the database, the installer used to issue 4 attempts. Only the last one that was successful. So you do the math and the result was full week of pain.
The second attempt on a very powerful windows VM, took only 12 hours.
