Hello Ravi,

Thats good info to start with..

Since you are running Tomcat as your web server, it has a built in web
servelet, so it doesn't need a separate web servelet.

Under your tomcat installation folder there will be a file called catalina.out.

This file will have some information of your general health of Tomcat. Look for
OutOfMemory errors.

If this is happening, it is a indication that your heap size is not what it
should be at.

This on windows can be set on the exectuable that manages Tomcat thats usually
found in the sytem tray if you have stuck to defaults while installing tomcat
on Windows.

Double click on this icon, and set the minimum and max size of heap in the Java
tab.

Since you asked, note that your max size of heap should never be more than 60
to 70% of the 'total available FREE memory' just before Tomcat is started. And
also note that 'total available FREE memory' is different from the 'total
memory' on the server.

I would also check on the swap space available on the server. Optimize this.
Usually Windows auto manages the swap space but that doesn't really mean that
the windows auto management works best all the time. Have your system admins
look at the swap space and ask them to set it to what may best work on your
server given your resources.

I may also ask you to consider upgrading to Mid-Tier Patch 2. While they do not
claim there to be any performance fixes on the Mid-Tier, since 7.5 is
relatively new anyways, you might not have a lot to loose to go up to Patch 2
and see how that works, afterall if it gets worse you can always backout since
its just like a client install and doesn't alter the database or anything.

Another consideration would also be to step up to a later version of JRE/JDK
1.6.0_13 and am doing fairly well with these.

Also check ur Network settings and make sure its set to full duplex mode.

Turn on Cache persitency in the Mid-Tier configuration. It helps with the load
of forms once the cache has been built, and preserves the cache if the tomcat
server is brought down, unless the server crashes in which case I think it
assumes the cache may have been bad and deletes it..

Joe

For eg it would be nice if you could tell us what version of the ARS Server you
are running and what version of the mid tier you are running down to the very
last patch installed.
ARS 7.5.00 Patch 001, Mid Tier 7.5.00 Patch 001

The versions and types of operating systems count too..
Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition

The versions of the web servers count as well.
APACHE/TOMCAT 5.5.25

Version of JDK and JRE that the Mid-Tier is using. What are the browsers
that the clients typically connect with.
JRE,JDK 1.5._12, Internet Explorer 6

What web servelet are you running?
where can i find this info ?

It would be nice to see all of this before anyone could suggest anything. This
has been discussed here several times before, and you must realize that most
people out here on the list are busy with their projects, but still make time
to answer and help the members of the list so it would be nice if you could
take some time as well when you need help to provide that little bit of
information upfront so we get a broader idea of the kind of problem you are
facing. It doesn't help too much if you tell us you have a problem with your
car that runs only a top speed of 80 mph if we do not know what car you are
talking about..

Thanks for your reply with adequate example of car. Makes if more clear.

Without all that I could just attempt one shot in the dark.. Have you cared to
adjust your Java Heap Size?where should i look for this information. What
should be the ideal heap size ?

Raj,

Before anyone can even suggest anything there could be various factors that
might be impacting your performance, so if you outline those, they might be
very useful for people who have had similar experiences in the past to help you.

Subject: Mid Tier running very slow

Hello all,
We have our mid tier on a virtual server. Last week, it was working fine and
fast. But all of a sudden this week, it has become pretty slow. when i type in
the url, then the mid tier login page loads but once i enter usename and
password , it says loading userdata.js at the bottom of the page  but the page
never loads .

Where should i look what is wrong with Mid Tier ? Although I did install mid
tier on main test system as well, and it works fast and everthing seems fine. I
looked in the mid tier logs by going into the webserver system , at the end of
the log file it says Reaping Cache Groups.

Please advice what should i do to make it work faster.

regards,
Raj
