ChatGPT advice on the changes is interesting; thought-provoking alternative to
opening IMAP ports, configuring TLS, DAV endpoints, working out testing and
implementing across multiple end device types: “reconsider the server/product
mix”
Activesync is simple - for back-end config, access/connectivity, and also for
devices.
Can the alternatives work - yes… but I'll be looking for alternatives :(

 What SOGo v6 is changing
 *
The SOGo team says v6 will drop ActiveSync and “replace [it] by … MAPI over
HTTP,” while SOGo remains a CalDAV/CardDAV server. That’s great for
Outlook-desktop interoperability, but it removes the only protocol most phones
use for combined mail+calendar+contacts. sogo.nuSo how do phones connect in a
post-EAS SOGo world?
Use the open standards SOGo has always been strong at:
iOS (built-in apps)
 *
Mail via IMAP/SMTP (SSL/TLS). *
Contacts via CardDAV; Calendar via CalDAV (both are natively supported profiles
on iOS and can be pushed by MDM if you use one). Apple Support+1
Android
 *
Mail via your preferred IMAP client (e.g., Gmail app configured for IMAP, or
another IMAP client). *
Contacts & Calendar via DAVx⁵ (adds CalDAV/CardDAV sync into Android’s native
Contacts/Calendar). davx5.com+1What about Outlook mobile?
 *
Outlook mobile doesn’t speak MAPI/HTTP to on-prem servers; its supported
on-prem path has been ActiveSync. Without EAS, Outlook mobile won’t give you
calendar/contacts sync to SOGo. If you must use Outlook mobile, you’d be
limited to IMAP-only mail (no first-party CalDAV/CardDAV in Outlook mobile).
Microsoft Learn+1Practical migration plan *
Audit devices & apps – list who uses iOS Mail, Samsung Mail, Nine, Outlook
mobile. *
Decide new client combos
 *
iOS: Mail (IMAP) + built-in CalDAV/CardDAV accounts. *
Android: IMAP mail app + DAVx⁵ for contacts/calendars. davx5.com *
Publish clear settings – IMAP/SMTP hostnames, ports, TLS, auth; CalDAV/CardDAV
endpoints (SOGo URLs). (SOGo v5 docs show how you expose CalDAV/CardDAV; v6
keeps this model.) sogo.nu *
MDM profiles (optional but nice) – Push iOS IMAP/CalDAV/CardDAV profiles so
users don’t hand-enter settings. Apple Support *
Pilot with a few users, then roll out comms and cutover date aligned with your
SOGo v6 upgrade.Decision points for you
 *
If you have heavy Outlook for Windows users: MAPI/HTTP in SOGo v6 is a win for
desktop experience. Microsoft Learn *
If you’re committed to Outlook mobile (with full calendar/contacts on phones),
MAPI/HTTP won’t help; you’ll need to standardise on IMAP + CalDAV/CardDAV, or
reconsider the server/product mix.

So, again, it’s only Gmail and Nine that you can list. In my previous message I
explained
why those are not really useful … unfortunately.

1. We are IOS centric and the default mail app works well with SOGo's activesync
2. For those who are using android, we are using Nine and stock Gmail app.

I did not find any viable one anymore. Both Nine and BlueMail do not count any
longer as both are buggy.
The standard Gmail app sort of works but cannot be used if your SOGo e-mail
address happens to also
be your Google account’s e-mail address. And someone mentioned the Outlook app
for Android but
I could not get it working and it is also said to store credentials and user
data in Microsoft cloud – bad.

So, any other option? Which?

Hi Quentin and team,
ActiveSync is great for mobile devices:
 * Every mobile (mail-client) supports it * Users go through one setup for
mail, calendar and addressbooks, i.e. user-friendly setup as well. * From my
perspective ActiveSync also allows for pre-authentication, a poor-mans 2-factor
authentication which is not possible with regular imap/smtp mail. * It is hard
to replace because users have to get instructions how to change the mail on
their phones.
I hope you can revisit the decision to stop with ActiveSync as I find it an
easy, simple and relatively secure solution for external / mobile email.

See my message to this list a couple of days ago about ActiveSync apps for
Android. I really also like
how ActiveSync works (e.g. only one account/connection to configure in one
single app for mail, calendar
and contacts). However, during the search for a suitable app I could only learn
that almost anyone
is abandoning it, even Microsoft.

We recently got the problem that BlueMail on Android which had supported
ActiveSync for a long time
did suddenly not work properly any longer due to its latest update. That was
the trigger why I searched
for an alternative. We had used Nine before BlueMail and when I now checked
Nine again I learned that
the vendor does no longer maintain it in favor of a new solution which is a
cloud based solution and
stores user data there.

So I could only decide to drop both of these and switch to Thunderbird and
DAVx5 on Android.
(We do not use iOS here. And we use Thunderbird on the Desktop, anyway.)

Same here, we are using Nine because of the ability to import S/MIME
certificates within the app and it would be quite bad if we would not be able
to use it anymore.

Hello,
Have same problem, we use Nine (mail, calendar, contacts) application in
android mobile, and it uses active sync.
I ask Nine support and they answer actually for mobiles is not planned MAPI
over HTTP.

Hello !

I have seen that the activesync server will be replaced with MAPI over HTTP.
This is a big feature drop for all our customers. How ist the plan from SOGo to
connect mobile phones without the need of additional apps or configuration in
the future?

MAPI over HTTP is a feature that only is used from outlook. What is with all
other clients that preferred using Activesync ?
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
