I used to have 1-10 freezes per day with a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit). My PC is an i7-3770 with HD4000 Intel graphics, 16GB RAM. Now I replaced the Intel graphics with some old NVidia card, and the problem is gone.
