I am also facing this freezing problem especially when I start FlightGear. My Hardware is a new Asus P8Z77-V LX mother board with Intel I7 3770K CPU + 16GB Ram. + Built-in HD4000 GPU. I am using freshly installed 64bit Ubuntu 12.04
I have to press the hardware reset to reboot my computer it freeze.
