I'm horrified by this bug. Lots of talk yet it still hasn't been fixed!
The steps outlined in comment #41 seem easy to do and reasonable.
Meanwhile the 535 driver got similarly transitioned to a newer version,
and is also causing problems for people.

Meanwhile I upgraded to Ubuntu 26.04 and am using
https://github.com/joanbm/nvidia-470xx-linux-mainline to allow the 470
driver to work with version 7.0.0 of the Linux kernel. It's no worse
than it was in 24.04 when it was officially supported. So, Ubuntu could
have made the 470 driver available in 26.04.
