This sounds similar to bug 2101817 which also had that error message,
except that Mesa 24.2.8 does not contain commit 1de7c86bc1 which caused
the regression in bug 2101817. Also since you say the problem always
happened, it doesn't sound like a regression in Ubuntu 24.04 at all.
If you are going to use Wayland with Nvidia in 24.04, please be aware of
bug 1970389 which is not resolved there.
I only wonder if Alessandro can think of any previous bug this would be
a duplicate of. I can't find any.
