Interesting when you log into gnome-shell on Xorg that the Xorg server then reports all its input devices are being removed(!). So it sounds like either a VT switch is happening at the wrong time (after the gnome- shell user session has started), or that gnome-shell is frozen, or both. This might also explain why we see the graphics-related errors "Failed to open sliced image: Operation was cancelled".
Next time the problem happens, please try switching to a VT and the force gnome-shell to dump core: killall -USR1 gnome-shell Then hopefully we will get a crash report created in /var/crash/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2089709 Title: Ubuntu 24.04 (X11) sometimes logs in to a black screen with only an X cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2089709/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
