Yes, unlocking will reference /etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard, which in this scenario is a symbolic link to /etc/pam.d/gdm-smartcard-sssd-exclusive, which explains why unlocking isn't affected by the bug (doesn't fallback to password based authentication)
