The first screenshot (using the "-Djdk.gtk.version=2" option) shows the
application screen the way it should appear.  The slider controls (in
the right pane) all have a handle which can be 'grabbed' by the mouse,
and dragged.

The second screenshot (without the above option), shows the same screen,
with the problem clearly evident.  None of the slider controls (in the
right pane) have a 'handle' visible (which could be dragged using a
mouse).  Yet if you click and drag in the slider control where the
handle should be visible, it behaves as if a visible handle were there.
