Note that the fix suggested in the forum thread I posted above seems to solve the issues about Compiz crashing immediately when the cursor touches the screen edge. That fix involves disabling screen edge action bindings for the "Rotate Flip Right" and "Rotate Flip Left". However, even after disabling those actions, I have a problem with the scale plugin. If the scale plugin is initiated by a screen edge or corner, compiz crashes as soon as a window is selected. It seems that there are no problems with the scale plugin when it is activated by a keybinding (mine is Shift + Alt + Up) that does not involve a screen corner.
