Let's start with this: try running '/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test --print --display :0' and attach the output to this bug. That program determines if there is appropriate hardware support for running Unity (and some driver updates have been known to cause problems by misreporting their capabilities recently). Another thing is to look for the Unity log file.
