The symptom you're describing is of Compiz not running. There isn't
enough additional information reported to tell us why, though.
Let's start with this: try running '/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test
--print --display :0' and attach the output to this bug. That program
determines if there is appropriate hardware support for running Unity
(and some driver updates have been known to cause problems by
misreporting their capabilities recently).
Another thing is to look for the Unity log file. If the file
~/.cache/upstart/unity7.log exists, could you please also attach that to
this bug.
