Could you also try to capture and attach the corrupted cmdline entry, in case it could have some hints? Boot with break=mount mount -t ext3 /dev/sda2 /mnt cp /proc/cmdline /mnt/var/tmp/proc-cmdline.dat umount /mnt (Or to any other partition, or memory stick, which would be convenient for you)
