Hello Pascal, I started with a clean install of Kubuntu Feisty from the Live CD, formatting my existing partitions. When the printer was not detected or listed, I looked at the Kubuntu documenation which suggested going to LinuxPrinting.org It was here I found my printer with the gutenprint driver, and I followed their instructions for Ubuntu install using Alien. The problem is, I was unaware this driver was already installed as the KDE print manager did not list it.
After completing the commands you asked me to, the KDE print manager behaves as before (895 not listed). However adding printer using Gnome print manager now works fine. The printer succesfully been sent a test page! Thanks for your help.
