Yes, I ve just tried to play an .ogg file with the Ubuntu 64 Live DVD and the headphones work "out of the box".
I can also hear a "beep" (loud speakers and headphones work at the same time) just when the power adapter is plugged/unplugged and the volume of this sound is adjustable. Can you compare the configuration given by Alsa Information Script with mine ?
