interesting data point....running with Linaro image linaro-natty-headless-tar-20110202-0 and hwpack_linaro-panda_20110202-0_armel_supported but switched kernel, initrd, boot loader and xloader out with that from ubuntu natty and I no longer see the board halting problem.
While still using the files from natty, if I switch back in the Linaro kernel, I see the board halting problem once more.
