I have no idea.  It could be a charset thing for all I know, but
quicksave doesn't do a heck of a lot when you just log in -- just the
same kind of plugin initialization that every other plugin does.  If you
can get that error happening at least semi-regularly, I can start to
send you debugging code so we can narrow it down.  

I am putting this back on the SM-USERS mailing list in case anyone else
has seen this problem.
