Ok I was able to finally resolve this in Linux Mint 17.2
Not sure exactly what change fixed this but I did as follows (after
swoogan's automatic installer failed)
Created a file /etc/modprobe.d/usbhid.conf
in which the only line I put in was: options usbhid

I think it might be because I didn't realise I had samba installed
So I installed samba4 in Ubuntu 12.04
Realised that was the wrong thing to do
Purged samba4
I think that might have removed /var/log/samba
I restarted smbd
I now see /var/log/samba/log.smbd

It appears you have to check the 'keep me logged in with gwibber' option
on the authorization screen. At least thats what I did second time
around.

So I just type this before mounting an NFS share:
/etc/init.d/statd restart
and then statd starts and mount will work for me.
But that's very manual :(

No save option when adding facebook accoun
attention before Lucid was released. As it is, it looks as if Maverick
will be released with the same problem. In which case I'm going to find
it really difficult to be recommending Ubuntu to anyone, when such
basic, expected functionality remains unfixed for so long.
I hate to sound ungrate
I have the same issue on Xubuntu 6700XT system after upgrading from
23.10 to 24.04. Reboot after upgrade worked and then got the issue on
the 2nd boot. Removing "splash" from grub works.

After upgrading to the latest kernel on Ubuntu, my Wi-Fi adapter, a
Realtek RTL8822BE, stops functioning. The issue persists across reboots.
