Resolved the issue by.
1) Boot in safe mode
2) Uninstalling EnvyNG
3) Uninstalling any (remaining) nvidia drivers (ie. if you downloaded and
manually installed the drivers provided by nvidia)
4) Install EnvyNG
Now works as expected.

wlan0_renamed. The latter seems to have wireless capabilities but doesn't work
(manually with iwconfig)

I have the same problem on karmic and 2.6.31-17-generic. This started
with the upgrade from 2.6.31-16-generic.
One other thing I noticed was that if I boot into recovery mode, the
system keeps working when I plug in the usb drive and the log file looks
like the attached 'works.txt'.

This patch mostly works.
However, for some reason using the mentioned hack with sed it adds empty space
line after the text which ends up with GENRE field having space or empty line
after text. Can this empty space be removed.

My application gets the same error with openjdk 11.0.3+5-1ubuntu2 and

wifi broadcom does not work
Faced the same issue with Sony PHA-3 after the update from 14.04 to 16.04.
Solved by removing fwupd.
It is also worth to note that my second USB DAC, Dr. DAC Nano, works flawlessly
even with fwupd installed. However, Sony PHA-3 does not.
