this causes is when one is using a touchpad with two-finger vertical and

I have a very similar problem with my nvidia G94 (GeForce 9600 GT), only
differing in the HDMI issue - xrandr correctly detects the two DVIs. Out
of curiosity, does this happen for you with the live CD? In my case a
daily image of precise works fine, but both oneiric and precise exhibit
the problem

Hmm.. actually this seems hardware-dependent. My laptop with Intel
graphics has the problem, but my desktop with an nvidia card (and the
binary driver) displays the round corners correctly (on a 3x3 desktop as
well). Might be an issue with how these round corners are drawn.

Maybe, but preferably the other way around (this has 12 affected and 9
duplicates, the other has 5 and 0). The reported address in the error
message may be relevant, though, and perhaps we should keep them

Yup, 100% reproducible even after the latest compiz updates.
There must be something in my compiz settings that is causing this (not
