In Intrepid the printer is left in a bad state, and even the BIOS gets
stuck for a few minutes during boot-up while trying to recognize the USB
devices. I assume this is so because o
The packages are now in the repos, and indeed the problem is fixed.

I'm having a different variant of the fan problem since I upgraded to
2.6.27-10. When the computer boots, the BIOS sets the fan running at
medium intensity, and under normal conditions the Linux kernel stops
when it begins probing devices (when the splash screen appears). Now it
doesn't, and the fa

Yup, I understand that and I'm all for it. Delay writing for hours if
that improves performance further, that's great. But the question
remains: why is the _truncate_ operation not delayed as well? The gap

@Theo: thanks for addressing this point.

committing all operations in the journal, but you can't just delay one
transaction but not another.
I think this is the overall idea people are expressing here, delaying
the entire journal o
@Alessio: not quite.
I've installed the 2.6.28-2-rt kernel on my desktop and my laptop, which
have nothing in common hardware-wise. The kernel does see the second
core, but (reportedly) it's unusable. Running 'top' and pressing '1' I
get:

@Bryce: I've found a way to make X crash almost systematically, so I am
in a position to get a full backtrace. However, I followed

I've retested on Jaunty with the same results. This time I've also
checked what happens with compiz+gtk-window-decorator, and with metacity
alone (screenshots attached). Metacity seems to get the window borders
right, but mind that compiz+gtk-window-decorator is the default in
Ubuntu.
However, in

No, I'm using an Intel 945GM, and I get the same problem with all the
mentioned games. The recompiled libsdl does the trick for me too.

@Bryce: It definitely is a packaging problem. Using the packages from
Michael Marley's PPA (see comments #7-#9 above) I get the 3D SDL games
working again.
At no point did compiz stop working, so OpenGL is definitely enabled in
X11 and running smoothly as usual.
I don't know about the problem bei
