Summarizing the present situation: - There's a BIOS-induced conflict between PNP and PCI on these laptops. - Arne's patch fixes this specifically for the laptop's hardware -- the patch should be safe to apply since it will not affect any machines other than these laptops. - The BIOS inconsistency can be seen in the ACPI table, therefore there's scope for the kernel being able to fix this type of problem all by itself. - Upstream, Jesse Barnes is trying to come up with a general solution for this type of conflicts.
