@paul Check your X log to see if evdev is being used. I haven't tried 8.10 myself yet. Btw, fedora 10 uses evdev and has a similar problem. But the delay is only noticable for a few minutes after starting X, then the delay disappears. This might be a bug in evdev if ubuntu has the same problem.
