I finally had some time to deal with this. This morning I booted into
the 2.6.20 kernel and did the ol' "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get
dist-upgrade -y". After everything was updated I ran the following "sudo
update-grub" and then "sudo update-initramfs -k all -c". I now get past

When booted into the system from which you are issuing the "syslinux"
command to create your persistent drive, make sure you are using the
gutsy versions of syslinux and mtools (mtools may not have changed from
edgy and feisty). That fixed the problem for me completely. If that

I think I may have isolated the issue on my end - it seems that
Shift+Num Lock turns on the Mouse Keys feature.
It seems to be pretty easy to hit this key combo on my laptop since I'm
always turning Num Lock on and off pending what I'm doing at the time

Thanks Mark that works for the volume display and the ThinkPad button,

The equipment was a usb hub built into my CRT monitor that caused the

mode, the boot process stops at an (initramfs) prompt right after it
states "can't access tty; job control turned off." Seems like something

version of the upstart files.
I.e. by including a preferences file in the /etc/apt directory that
contains the following and downgrading to these versions:

It's been so long since I looked at this, I don't remember for sure,
but I think there are actually 3 upstart files that need to pinned at
the edgy level. I used aptitude to downgrade, so whenever I pinned
one, the other two were downgraded automatically. But, you may want
to make sure all three
I am completely in sync with Hardy and as of the updates about two days ago, if
I set the desktop effects, all windows lose the ability to be moved, the
boarders are gray and new applications are locked where they appear. I waited

What is the status of this bug? I'm surprised that bug is still
"Undecided". If I had not being using Linux for a number of years I
would have been dead in the water. Bugs like this definitely block bug

I just got the ipw2200 working on an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG. I'm
running the Ubuntu 7.10 (Oct.2007) Live-CD on a Dell Inspiron 6000. At
first, the device did not work at all. There are two BIOS settings for
the wireless device. For me they were set to disable the wireless
device on start-
The bug has gone after reinstalling Feisty from the CD.
Don't see it on Heron either.
So i think it comes with the upgrade to Feisty. Not with installing it.

No. I un-installed through synaptic then reinstalled through add/remove
