Thanks Alex, but I still question the logic on why a beta driver and

OK after reading the uvesafb manual I came up with this rather simple
workaround that makes my boot experience much better, still a bit jumpy.
sudo gedit /etc/initramfs-tools
add:
uvesafb mode_option=1280x800-32 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap
obviously changing your resolution to what you want then:
sudo
Oh I got nice hires ttys as well. The set gfxpayload=keep workaround
borked my ttys.

Alternatively (this works for me with Lucid, Nvidia with grub2) you can
edit your grub (sudo gedit /etc/default/grub) file and add the

You can switch back to compiz by using compiz --replace.
For me the cursor goes to comix regular in Compiz on the desktop but
displays my default cursor
For me this only happens when compiz is activated. I tried the old fix
of gconf-editor and changing the cursor theme in compiz but this had no
effect, i.e., the /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/cursor_theme
key.

Yeah this is due to compositing that docky needs. What I suggested
wasn't a fix or work around only to see if compiz or related update
causes this. I had a machine that had not been updated for a few days

I have the same problem but only on one of my machines (both fully
updated) in Lucid. However two of my machines work as expected. I even
created a new user on the buggy machine and get the same symptoms.
Strange problem.

Cannot change mouse cursor theme when compiz is enabled

OK a work around for this is to create a file in:
~/.icons/default/index.theme
Add the following lines
[Icon Theme]
Name =

Inherits =
Where your theme name can be obtained from running gconf-editor under
the key
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/cursor_theme
Restart comp
Sorry to hear the work around didn't do anything. Maybe the fields other
than Inherits actually matter I basically thought that the
~/.icons/default/index.theme would override the
/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme. It does for me but I am using the
simple DMZ (White) theme.

Looking at the bug fix report doesn't the new logo seem a bit weird as
