Ok, metooafterjaunty #1. ;) Actually I was observing this phenomena
since a while ago, but now I know I complained against the wrong bug.
This _is_ the one and now I also know why It was working nicely on a
eeepc 1000H (i945) and not on the 701!

Yes, it only works on open networks.
I've done all the testing I could think of and yes, even ndiswrapper
1.38 + wpa doesn't work contrary to what I've said some time ago. It did
work then, a couple of times, but then never again.
Very rarely it does connect, no matter which ndiswrapper gets used
I have just updated and I can't see this bug. Ubuntu 8.04 on AMD 64

Well I have this, but Hauwei e169 (seen as Hauwei E220) is still working
as always in Intrepid and I have not noted any damage to the modem
itself.
It was working fine in Jaunty, though there have been sporadic
hesitations, but then stopped working after thursday's updates. Actually
dmesg sees it

Ok, so I stopped my router and started a new session. Once the machine
was ready, I've inserted the Hauwei e169 and here is syslog.
BTW, I've noticed that /var/log still contains syslogs from the time the
modem was still working. Let me know if you need those, too. Or anything
else for that matter
I forgot to mention that I'm testing Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu on
different partitions on a usb HD. The hauwei modem stopped working on
all 'buntu flavours at the very same time. Maybe bug #334122 could be
related to this one (I'm using the nm plasmoid on kubuntu), as well as
other 3G recent bugs
Well, I tried to downgrade to the older network-
manager_0.7.1~rc3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb and network-manager and network-
manager-gnome_0.7.1~rc3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb and my broadband connection
reappeared, but, all the same, could not get connected, so I upgraded
again and also applied all the new update

Anyway, i had this even before (jaunty only - never did it in intrepid) and
sometimes could connect using the second one listed.

For a start I've been having all that has been reported here and now,
though I have notices some improvments, I have the following.
My Hauwei e196 [E620] is recognized and appears in the applet as
disconnected, but there is no way to get it to connect.

downloaded and manually changed the d3lphin.mo as here advised.
Anyway, the command in the console should be d3lphin. The output is:

As you may see on my previous post on 2007-11-18 I, as others as well,
managed to get past this bug.
That should be the solution, as far as I know, for those who have a
nvidia graphic card. I never had any freezes since. To facilitate
installation you may try envy.
Recently I've upgraded to Hardy
I've tried force installing the two packages from gutsy
ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.43-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb
ndiswrapper-common_1.43-1ubuntu2_all.deb
but they didn't make any difference and ubuntu does behave as before:
sometimes it does connect, but then connection drops after 15/20 mins.

I've tried WEP soon after this bug came about when I upgraded to Hardy
beta and was not successful. I'll have a go at it again later on this
evening when I'll be back home.
WEP was working in Feisty (no WPA). Gutsty had all types and was the
best so far as far as I go.
Although I see quite a few uncertainties with wifi these days, I have a
Zyxel G220 v2 and it is - usually - working, but I'm afraid it's not
quite the same as yours, as they have, I believe, different chips. Do
you now which driver is your using? Have a look in syslog if you can

I haven't had much time recently, but I've still managed to do some more
testing on the hardy live cd (64bit only, so far). Gutsy drivers didn't
help, but then again I haven't tried wep. I need wpa because there's too
many other APs around here.
What it did work is wpa using... feisty ndiswrapper.

Now it's working. Strange, I didn't do anything new except a 'killall -HUP
nautilus' as Sander said. Last time, days ago, I just did 'killalll nautilus'
and ogg was not working. Where do those HUP option come from; I didn't see them
with 'killall --help'.

I have exactly the same machine as you have, same driver and, of course
the very same problem. My syslog also seems a photocopy of yours. I have
not so far done a clean install because everything else seems to be
fairly right for a beta and this is, so far, the only "badly mutilating"
bug

I wanted to test 0.6.6-0ubuntu1 that someone said was working, but I
can't find it anywhere. Synaptics doesn't show it and there no way I
know to force version.
Any hints?

With this morning updates bringing in the new kernel, hal and a big

Yep, I talked too soon.
I've just tried now, and it goes into the same routine.
It _did_ work this morning. I did the updating while the usb stick was
connected. All went well and I decided to have a go at my internal
ndiwsrapper supported Inprocomm card and it worked at once so I took out

At this very moment I am connected through the laptop and the built in
card is working. What have I done? Nothing.
When I turned on the machine I had my ZyXel usb plugged in and Ubuntu
connected. I then turned on the WiFi switch on the laptop and waited for
a scan. A little later I could see both
I haven't had much time to look at WiFi, but...
new kernel updated (uname -r 2.6.24-15-generic) and no difference from the
previous.
One thing I've noticed in the past two days, even with the new kernel,
while I was successfully connected, is that after a while the connection
drops. You can tell
The problem arises if Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.5~rc1 is installed and
activated.
Disable it and it will go away.

kernel used is 2.6.24-15-generic but it might have started before.
At one point I've found that a mounted usb disk was not mounted in
/media/disk, but on /media/disk___ so I had a look at /media and found
other similarly named directories like:
/media/
