As you may see on my previous post on 2007-11-18 I, as others as well, managed to get past this bug.
That should be the solution, as far as I know, for those who have a nvidia graphic card. I never had any freezes since. To facilitate installation you may try envy. Recently I've upgraded to Hardy and unless you have any good reason to stick to Gutsy, I'd advise for an update.
