Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hplip
Hi,
I'm on an originally ubuntu machine but using KDE4 (kubuntu-desktop). I
upgraded from jaunty to karmic RC 2 days ago.
My HP Photosmart C6280 (device URI hp://...) got automatically copied to a new
printer with device URI

Hi Aaron, thanks for your comment!
I'm not completely sure if I installed hplip manually. I'd think I did
not, but maybe I did (a few releases ago, possibly).
Do you mean I should --purge remove it and the install again? Or dpkg
--reconfigure?
What's the technical background of this matter? As f

Sorry for the noise.
The actual problem was that the grub update does not put the karmic kernel into
menu.lst, so I was still on the jaunty kernel.
With 2.6.31-14-generic it works perfectly.

Daniel,
this is a very good question. I remember that during the upgrade I was
asked twice about keeping or replacing the menu.lst. I clicked "replace"
the first time and "keep" the second time because I assumed that the new
one was there and should not be tampered with anymore.
The strange thing
I did $ sudo apt-get --purge remove hplip
and $ sudo apt-get install hplip hpijs-ppds hplip-gui
but running hp-systray, I still get this output:
$ hp-systray

PS: I could force the manager to start anyway, with hp-systray -x.
There, I could add a new printer, and my printer on the USB port was
recongized and registered as
hp:/usb/Photosmart_C6200_series?serial=MY7AOH23Z30506
- I can print a test page from the KDE4 system settings -> printer

tell me, if you need any more information! I really need sound on this
machine :/
thank you,
- kbit
