Ok, time to find some solutions.
First of all: My cardreader does work on Feisty 2.6.20-15 with the tifm-modules
compiled from the sources (tifm 0.8d) with the protocol.h from the vanilla
kernel copied "quick and dirty" to the headers file. It doesn't work with the

I can also confirm that pressure influences the amount of lag. This also

The if-post-down script of bridge-utils explicitly downs all interfaces on a
bridge. As a result of this, wake-on-lan doesn't work anymore.
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it's really necessary to do "ifconfig $x
down" on all bridge-sl

Now I tried NIS on a current lucid VirtualBox install and found ssh to be
working there right away and only gdm being broken.
When capturing via tcpdump the YPSERV communication I noticed many identical
queries for passwd.byname so I tried on both systems: aptitude install nscd .
What is interest
The nscd problems appear to have only been caching isues.
touch /etc/groups helped there. The underlying NIS-group bug with gdm remains,
though.

The installation of grub2 fails when _any_ snapshot is present. Not only
on the root filesystem (or boot), not even mounted. In my system it was
a snapshot of a WinXP volume used by KVM. Deleting it worked just fine.
