Well, I have to withdraw this one. It turns out that the observed behavior has nothing to do with the Ubuntu update procedure. The problem occurs if I don't save my tgif files in my home folder /home/mydir. If I use any subdirectory like /home/mydir/whathaveyou/whatever/, then the export does not work. I will have to figure out whether that's a bug in tgif or my setup. Since this happens on a freshly installed system, I guess it is a bug in tgif.
